Learning Leader - Support Education
Neurodivergent learners in today's world - Should this be everyone’s business? Should we all be involved in understanding what neurodiversity really means? If we can understand the history of Support Education, then we will be able to appreciate that we are living in a remarkable period that is now truly embracing and celebrating our neurodiverse learners and it's about time.
Neurodiversity is about respecting and valuing the differing backgrounds, skills and experiences that students bring to our community. To prepare young people to lead rewarding and productive lives in a complex and evolving world, we must be truly inclusive and embrace differences, so we can ensure that every student is valued, respected and cared for in schools and also beyond the gates of school life.
Valuing different and unique ways of learning provides an opportunity to be more understanding, empathetic and resilient to life’s unpredictable nature. It is also an occasion to reflect on how far we have progressed over the years regarding students’ specific learning needs and the different ways in which they can learn.
