The physical space of our classroom shapes the culture within it by conveying a message about what is valued and encouraged. Ron Ritchhart emphasises the importance of having an ongoing thread of learning reflected in student spaces in order to tie together the ideas of our lessons and units. If our environment is “the third teacher”, how do we navigate the shared space of the senior classroom where the walls and structures must align with the vision of each of its disparate visitors?
This workshop will explore how we can utilise the Environment Cultural Force to create opportunities for visible thinking. Collaboratively we will contemplate how do we navigate shared spaces? How do we consistently give students the opportunity to regulate autonomously? How and when do students share their thinking process to ensure our classrooms are “thought-full” places?
