What does playful teaching and learning look like and why is it important? Based on almost a decade of cross-cultural, K-12 research at Project Zero, this workshop will share the tools and findings from the Pedagogy of Play project. Participants will explore the nature of playfulness and tools they can use to recognise and design for it with learners. Several practices of playful teaching and learning will be introduced and participants will engage in activities to adapt them to fit their contexts and goals. While playfulness is often conflated with games and open-ended fun, this workshop will focus on the serious and rigorous processes of learning playfully and the important socio-emotional outcomes it offers.
